Best Day Ever (Part 2)

Finally!!! I have time to continue the story of the best day of my life. Part One here! So yeah, after we played the video to the audience, it was time for us to come in!!! And this is how we went in! :D

Basically we Bandi and I tore down the “Heck Yeah We Did” paper and Fenty supposed to ignite the fireworks and place them around us, but unfortunately the firework didn’t work. Hahahaha. Angel, Renny and Tannia put the words “BEST DAY EVER” below us and it also didn’t really work because somehow we all laughed for no reason.

After that Bandi and I supposed to kiss each other hot and wet and they supposed to look grossed and left us alone. However only Renny acted seriously grossed (or was she really? LOL)

DSC_5062a

It started very smoothly

_DSC0024a _DSC0026a _DSC0025a DSC_5067a

But everything was just so fun, or we were a little high, I don’t know. Everything just seemed so right. Hahaha. I was in the happiest moment of my life.

After that, We were all seated and Bandi began his welcome speech.

Huuby <3

Hubby <3

It was funny and sweet, and pretty long for a speech. Who knows now he loved to speak in front of public? LOL

Here's to today.

DSC_5090a DSC_5092a DSC_5095a After the starter course, it was time for Ricky (One of Bandi’s groomsman to deliver his speech) Oh thanks god he delivered the speech in English because there were a loooott of things not supposed to be said in front of parents on that speech. LOLOLOL.

His stupid face when he got a call from somebody on his phone while he read his speech. "Somebody please stop calling my phone" LOLOLOL

It was started with Renny showing to the world how fat I was as a baby. LOL

I remember she said, “we were friends for so long we didn’t even realize how much changes we’ve been through and yet we’re still friends now. :) We were friends when my hair was still like lion, when Fenty was still super fat, when Renny was still crying every 5 minutes and May was still so tanned.” LOL

And then Tannia said about things happened on my bachelorette party! OH NO!!! Look at Bandi's face! XD

Now it’s time for kisses, hugs and photos!!! :) So many beautiful moments captured on the lenses. I cannot pick my favorite, they all meant a lot to me. My dad taught me 2 important things: Always be grateful and always love animal. He never kills any animals even it’s only bugs or ants, even cockroaches. He’s a very loving person… And it was my honor to have him dance with me on my wedding day. :”)

Super LOL!!! After the treasure dance, the dancefloor was pretty much packed! See a video below, captured and edited by one my the great Journalist today, Lukman Soedarbo!

These are some of the photos that aren’t blurred from the dance floor!

Everything after the crowded dancefloor was a bit blurry for me and Bandi. I remember when friends started to leave the party, saying goodbyes to Bandi and me, and then Bandi drank with his close friends and he was so drunk I remember he ran around Burgundy like mad man. Hahahaha. And then he went to cottage and pass out for a while.

Here are some of the stupid after-party photos from my friends…

Looking back… so many funny inside jokes that wouldn’t fit on this post, but seriously I couldn’t ask for a better wedding day for me and Bandi. The friends that we have are truly our treasure. People can change but memory lasts forever… When I’m sad, I will look up at these photos and remember how grateful I am, to have all of you as my friends. :)

And guess who spent the night on our “kamar penganten”? Klemens and Vigar!!! Hahahahah!!! Bandi was sleeping on the top of random stuffs while Renny and I slept on another room. Well… the weirdest thing was… Angel passed out on the car! Hahaha Thank goodness she didn’t die! XD

Best Day Ever (Part 1)

I don’t know where to start… I’m so overwhelmed with this great feeling. So many nice gestures from friends, so many efforts and so many love from everybody. And for the hundredth times, I’m telling the world this: I have the best bridesmaids in the world.

… and the best groom, of course.

The journey began exactly 24 hours before “I do”

I had just arrived at Bandung Airport and I straightaway gave up my luggage to Renny, my bridesmaid whom already waited for me at the gate. Bandi and I took Gery’s motorcyle (Gery is one of the groomsman) and Bandi rode the bike like craaaaazy because our appointment was at 12 pm and it was already 12 pm when we started to move. 15 minutes later we arrived at the church and thankfully the father was okay with us being late. (The father who would be marrying us was famous to be the fiercest among them all. :p)

We did rehearsal for a while and then we were heading to the hotel to check in. And then the first drama began… We got a mix cancellation email from Changi Airport about some of the liquor orders from us. Long story short, Bandi solved the problem.

The second drama would be Ricky arriving at the airport later and forgot to bring his Indo number so he texted us late, and we drove back to hotel again to pick him up.

There were some family drama involved after this, but yadda-yadda-yadda… Anyhowww, we all arrived at Burgundy (the venue of the wedding dinner) at last!!! It was about 7 pm when we started to decorate the venue, the tiffany chairs, the chalkboard and everything. We also managed to rehearse our grand entrance and “treasure dance”.

And enough time to pose for some stupid photo session

And enough time to pose for some stupid photo session

12 hours before “I do”

Bandi and I had a big fight in the hotel that involving door-slamming and bridesmaids+groomsmen panicking. Come to think of it, it was so silly. We were probably stressed so we had a super bad mood. Anyway, it was part of the drama too. LOL.

5 hours before “I do”

I woke up too early, maybe because I was excited. I went down with Renny to have breakfast and then started the make-up and dress-up thingy, and then… the time was starting to crawl closer and closer to the moment!!!

My sister kept bugging me while I was having my make up.

And then…. the time has come! We all were ready to move!!!

Start from this, I could explain to you by pictures… However all pictures were taken fully by phones/non-SLR camera, so don’t expect too much. I haven’t got the pro-pictures.

Let's do this!!!!

And then the sweetest thing happened… He gave me a letter. It was a love letter with a writing on the envelope “To my bride to be…”

He asked me to read it privately so I walked further down a little bit and read it. Somebody snapped the moment though.

:")

:”)

Oh isn’t he just the sweetest… I lost words of how I should thank him for everything… He has been a wonderful boyfriend, awesome fiance and now… he’s my husband… I can’t believe this… So surreal. :)

And then... showtime!!!

And then… showtime!!!

The moment we said “I do”

That's me being nervous and Bandi being excited.

That’s me being nervous and Bandi being excited.

Anyway I didn’t walk down the aisle alone or with my dad beside me. After the talk with Father Bogartz, we decided to walk down the aisle together, as a symbol for Bandi and me being equal. Nobody was being given away or being taken away from any family. It was two persons’ decisions to walk down the aisle together. :)

Heck yeah, I do!!!

Heck yeah, I do!!!

And then we kissed!!!! =)

Hip Hip Horray!!!

Hip Hip Horray!!!

I still haven’t got any more photos, so that’s it for the church wedding now. Will upload more in part.2

3 Hours after “I do”

While I was panicking and fingercrossing in the cottage, my bridesmaids and groomsmen were working their asses off to make sure Bandi and I had our dream wedding.

They didn’t let me come out from the cottage, and I was under a heavy-make-up-construction that time (LOL) so all I could do was waiting.

And look what they did. :)

Everything on that table belongs to me and Bandi. I always felt weird coming to people’s wedding who put some stuffs on the entrance table that didn’t really connect with them, such as bird cages, old typewriters, just because they’re cute and vintage. No offense, but by looking at this table, you know it’s about me and Bandi. The globe, the train tickets, all the photos, foreign coins, our love letters when we were on LDR, our first mixed-CD, everything from our 8 years journey together. We wanted people who came to the wedding went through the memories lane. =)

7 Hours after “I do”

And then the party began… We started by calling the family into the dining area, and once all the guests seated, this video was being played…

And then… SHOWTIME!!!

And the details will be on part 2. Lol

(… To be continued…)

Peace out,

May, still swoon over the moon.

Where do you wanna get married?

Bandi and I came from different city in Indonesia. He grew up in Palembang and I grew up in Jakarta. I then spent my high school in Bogor and moved to Bandung, where I eventually met him.

During (almost) eight years together, we have spent (almost) half of it in Singapore, a quarter of it in Bandung and another quarter in a Texas-Jakarta Long Distance Relationship.

So, where should we get married?

It is of course a rhetorical question since we’ve known all along where it is.

We would love to get married in Bandung. It would be questionable for most of our friends because hey, it would be easier to my friends and family if we would just get married in Jakarta, right?

But, Bandung…

It is a city where we first met, where we had our first fight, our first kiss, our first dream, our first dance, our first breakup and make up, the first time we claimed “our song” and the other thousand memories. It is true that we have so many sweet memories in Singapore too, however we first moved in together when we were in Singapore, but why Bandung left such a great impact in our life?

The breeze of the wind when we stepped out from the plane brought us back to the days when all we did was dreaming. We didn’t know the real world back then. We just knew that we would change the world. Well, we didn’t really change the world, but we’ve changed each other’s worlds.

It was a night in October 2006 when we had our first kiss. I was having a very bad flu and almost a fever. The first kiss was anti-romantic, but extremely unforgettable. We didn’t have social media back then, so I texted only to my three bestfriend, “I just had my first kiss.” I wouldn’t want the moment to be happened in any other way. It was imperfectly perfect.

It was November 2006 when we had our first dance, literally under the moonlight, with The Blowers’ daughter played at the back. It was supposed to be a party for my campus and I thought it would be the crazy one but they played a romantic song instead. Bandi wore Giordano pink shirt and a pair of jeans and I wore a simple white top embroidered with black flowery pattern. Bandi put his arms around my waist and I rested my head against his shoulder and I swear the world stopped for a moment. He’s been owning my heart pretty much ever since.

We had our very first adventure in Bandung, where we learned to grow up together. We were different people back then. We were restless, fearless, so alive and full of dreams. We initiated our dream to conquer the world together.

We said, we could be anything.

And we believed in it.

We are now still as alive as we were then, but we’ve grown into adults. We have responsibilities and baggage. We had responsibilities and baggage too back then, we just decided not to care.

Oh how I loved you then… And I love you still now. I’m just loving you in a more growing up way now.

We might only send each other love letters every once a year now, or we don’t initiate romantic act as often as we did, but it doesn’t mean we don’t love as much as we did. We know for fact that we can only love more. It is impossible not to love you more each day.

And Bandung… is not only a city. It reminds me of our youth, the time where we were happily crazy, where we opened our heart, letting someone in.

Bandung is the place where I fell in love, not only to you, but to myself too. It is where I started to live to the fullest and where I decided to make my dreams come true.

So yeah getting married in Santorini sounds fun too but hey, Bandung has the memories that are just too priceless to ignore.

Bandung is magical. And if there’s only one place I could always go back to, then Bandung is the one.

I will marry you, in our favorite place on earth… just because.

I guess you can’t agree more. =)

Cheers,

May, going to Bandung soon!

Tanggapan mereka biasanya “APAAAH??” dengan mata jum-in jum-out ala sinetron Indonesia.

Mungkin beberapa orang butuh prewed karena semasa pacaran mereka segitu in love with each other nya sehingga kerjaan nya cuma sayang2an aja so mereka jarang foto-foto atau mungkin masa pacaran mereka terlalu singkat. So intinya mereka butuh foto-foto yang representatif untuk ditaruh di wedding mereka, thus they need a professional photographer to capture their lovey-dovey moment.

Gunanya apa?

Lalu, gue mengambil kesimpulan…. Orang indo itu kan gengsi nya tinggi, makanya yang ditanyain itu adalah lokasi prewed nya, “prewed dimana?”

Semakin jauh/mahal si prewed semakin bergengsi lah si penganten. Ya gak? Iyalaaah ngaku ajaaa!

Menurut gue, lokasi, gaun, make-up itu nggak penting. Yang penting ekspresi si kedua pasangan. It’s just my opinion yah.

Anywaaaay, gue juga menarik kesimpulan kalau pasangan calon pengantin ini sebenernya pengen jalan2 romantis berduaan, tapi kan selama pacaran itu “gak enak” jalan2 berdua, ntar diomongin orang, jadilah pake term “mau pergi foto prewed” LOLOLOL. Kidding… Not!

Well, Bandi and I love traveling together since forever and we never give a fuck of what people say. So at least the memories behind the photos aren’t the trouble of changing gowns in the public toilet.

So yeah, Bandi thought we didn’t need to waste money by doing prewed lahhh. But anyway, jangan diambil serius lah post ini yaaa, gue cuma iseng aja. Nggak ada maksud mau offence orang2 yang foto prewed di Spore. ;)

This post is only for fun bitching.

Bandi and I did our “save the date” photoshoot in Singapore too, come on. Dan kalau mau disebut prewed boleh juga lah. Bandi and I did a photoshot for fun with our lovely friend/photographer. His girlfriend begged us to do prewed photos for fun and if we didn’t do that she wanted to jump off the bridge. So yeah, we did this to save someone’s life. That’s you, Fefe! I saved your life!

I will spill the what-so-called pre-wed photos later on okay?

But for now, let’s just say Bandi and I have already had too many stock of photos to use on our wedding. :p

Cheers,
May, who loves taking photos too much.

Wedding, sunblock, and cholesterol.

Hi guys,

Sorry for the depressing feeling in the previous post. I didn’t mean to spread sadness but I got carried away because one of my bridesmaid went through a very bad breakup. Don’t worry, she’s a very strong woman and three weeks from now I will meet her and we’re gonna have a bridesmaids road trip to Bandung! Woot woot! I’m so gonna make her laugh again! =)

We will have the second bridesmaids meeting in the actual wedding venue! How exciting is that! We’re also gonna try the table layouts with the florist. Ahhh, so exciting! I know I promised not to talk about wedding, but I began to get attached with the whole planning because I (seriously freakishly) love planning!

The last one year I’ve spent my life planning for Europe trip, now that it’s over, I felt my life goal-less. So I guess I’m focusing all my energy to the wedding now. Oh my god, I’m such a dork I plan everything! The bridesmaids have already started calling me bridezilla. Dammit. So I just went ahead signing the wedding-related email to the bridesmaids and groomsmen “Love always, Bridezilla and Grumpygroom.” LOL

Why Bandi is the Grumpygroom? Because he is grumpy. :p

Anywaaaaay, I just feel like writing a post today, without any particular topic in my mind. Hey, I have already warned you that 2014 will be blabbering year! :D

Last Wednesday I went out with my girlfriends and we ended up browsing around cosmetics in a korean shop called Innisfree. I’ve naver heard about this brand before but I think it’s quite cheap compared to the other Korean brands in Singapore, umm, I’m not sure actually… I never shop cosmetic in any Korean stores before. My heart is already taken by Sephora. :p

I went to this store because one of my girlfriend wanted to buy a serum but the four of us ended up purchasing something. I ended up buying a spray sunblock. This is quite revolutionary for me because I’m one of those people who is lazy to apply sunblock even though we know sunblock is very very important. One of the reason why I’m lazy to put sunblock on my face is because my face will look so oily and so fair/white. Just FYI, my face is not fair like the other Chinese girls. I have tanned skin which I acquired on purpose. I feel that fair Chinese girls are so common and I want to stand out (yeah yeah hipster.)

Back to the sunblock topic! My previous sunblocks have always been the cream ones so when I found this sunblock, I was so happy! First, it was so easy just to spray it on my face. Second, my face didn’t react badly so I think we’re fine. Third, it’s water based so it’s not so oily!

The revolutionary spray sun block is the one in the middle!

The revolutionary spray sun block is the one in the middle!

Oh well, see how random my blabber is? If I can see what’s going on in my mind maybe I would see a lot of small bubbles full of thoughts, maybe something like the crowded junction in Japan. Hmm, I just remember something… One friend told me I’m vulgar. Hmm… Am I?

Yes I am! LOL! Maybe vulgar sounds bad, I’m more like… outspoken in a dirty way. LOLOLOL. No lah, I’m just like to joke a lot and sometimes I didn’t filter my words and forgetting my audience. You know in Path we’re only allowed to have 150 friends? Well, I already maximize the quota and I only share my path with people I’m comfortable with, because of yeah… I’m vulgar. LOL. I know I know I have to stop saying bad words and tell dirty jokes. But I just can’t help it!!! Maybe when someday I become a mom, I’ll stop. =)

But for now, I’m still a kid at heart. :p

So let’s move to the next topic! These past two months I’ve been feeling a sharp pain in my chest. I’ve gone to the doctor three times for three different medications. They’ve checked my heart and it turned out to be normal. The lungs are fine too so the doctor said it’s just probably a strained muscle. What the heck? Strained muscle for two months?

The pain got worse everytime I ate fatty and oily food and when Strawberry visited me with his protein freak boyfriend, he told me to cut down the fats intake. After arguing (of course), I took his advise and I felt a bit better… until I ate another Babi Guling yesterday. LOLOL

If you know me in person, you’ll know that I LOVE FOOD. My love for food is bigger than my love for Bandi, seriously! I will choose food over Bandi in a heartbeat! But I love my body more. I want to live long. I know it sounds weird because I’m still young (yes I am!) but I feel uncomfortable everytime I eat unhealthy food. My tummy is bloated, my throat hurts and my chest gets more painful.

I think it’s a wake up call for me… to finally realize that I cannot keep taking my body and my health for granted. I remember I read Oppie’s blog about how she changed her diet because of health matter. I never thought I could ever do that, but I also knew Oppie loved food too! So I guess in one point of someone’s life, they will have this epiphany of starting a healthy life just because their body send them a signal.

Sadly, my body has already sent me the signal. (And goddammit I’m only twenty something.)

How horrible is my eating habbit? Oh man! Seriously! I eat EVERYTHING! If sendal jepit (flip slops) tastes good, I’d probably it them too!

This new oath will have its first challenge and temptations because tomorrow morning I will fly to Palembang, the home of good (and unhealthy) food. Oh maaaaannn! Why god whhhhhyyy?!!!

Anyhow! Today is January 10th. I kept thinking what’s so special with this date? Why this date seems like so familiar… Hmm… Then I browsed this blog and I remembered! On January 10th 2009, I sent Bandi away to US. It was heartbreaking.

Tha tha for now!

When this blog returns to its blabbering habit

Hey cherry pies! Happy new year!

Photo 1-1-14 7 51 02 pm

Today I woke up in the morning thinking to write one honest post in my blog. I guess it’s been a while since I blabber about my crappy awesome life, that’s weird because I love talking about my life! Lol

I think I’ve been so busy with post-europe stuffs, wedding prep, xmas and new year (both real new year and chinese new year) oh well, I’ve just been busy with life actually. I didn’t really have spare time to write anymore. I read some blog posts from my favorite blogger on my phone inside the mrt train and didn’t leave comments because writing comments in mobile phone sucks.

I hope after all the year-end fiesta ends, I could live my slacking life again. I kinda love it being a lazy ass. I did write some stuffs inside my drafts but I didn’t know why I didn’t publish it. I guess I want to have a clean posts in 2013 that don’t suck. 2013 was actually a good year for my blogging life. :)

But from today, I guess I will revert back this blog to be full of craps again. Lol. Just kidding, I will try to write some unedited honest post some time.

How’s your countdown and your first morning in 2014? Mine started exactly the same like last year… Cleaning up the house full of spilled alcohol, confetti and crashed m&m’s, not to forget to brush off toilet full of pukes. Eww… what a glamorous way to start a new year, right?

Talking about new year, people like to tell about their new year’s resolution. I think I’m one of those people who is goal-oriented so my resolutions were usually well done in the past years. My 2013 resolutions were to sit up everyday and I’ve done it until I went to Europe, so I’d been doing sit ups everyday for 10 months.

What about this year’s resolution? Well, I decided not to make one. I will stick to that “sit up everyday” thing but I won’t call it a resolution because I want to make it my permanent lifestyle. I really want to have a great abs again. And to complete that… I think I have to stop drinking. I hate the feeling of waking up remembering blurry night and having spinning morning. Ok, that’s crap. I won’t totally stop drinking, but I will drink less. I promise I won’t drink during weekdays anymore because it was so tiring to wake up early and work the next day. I also promise not to do any excessive drinking at least until my wedding, or my bachelorette party (if that’s happening-ahem, hint to the bridesmaids!) But well, promise is a big word….. Hmm… Ok now I’m being indecisive. But I do really want to drink less! Ok but maybe not a promise. :p

Anyway, I don’t want to leave an impression as if I’m a loser drunkrad. I’m not, ok? It’s just that last year I had a lot of drinks maybe because I was stressed out and tense. Hmm… That’s a lie, I wasn’t stressed out! I just like to drink! Lololol.

I should start being serious, shouldn’t I?

Ok, enough talking nonsense, let’s talk about what has been going on in my life lately…

Well life’s been good. I made peace with my brother and that fact put a smile on my face everytime I remember it. I’ve been missing my friends so much but now that Strawberry is visiting, it cheers me up. :) I don’t have any travel plan for 2014, I guess Bandi and I are focusing the funds for the wedding. Oh boy wedding is costly! But again, that depends on who spends it. Some people spent 10 times more and they would probably think it was a cheap wedding. Well for me, I would want to spend my wedding funds for another Europe trip, but Bandi always reminded me that the money will be well spent because he promised that it’s going to be the night when we celebrate love. And that sounds pretty awesome.

I try not to write my wedding prep in my blog because the wedding is very very small and I don’t invite a lot of people (bcoz it’s small, duh!) so I don’t wanna be like those annoying kids who show off their new toy but wouldn’t share to play together. LOL.

I just want to say that everything goes according to plan, yeah of course there are some hiccups here and there but hey who doesn’t, right?

Thank you for the kind encouragements I’ve received, I didn’t know before that planning a wedding took times and energy so an encouragement did cheer me up. :)

Hmm, what else… Oh! 2014 will also be full of bandi’s friends’ wedding so I will need to travel back and forth to Indo a lot of times. That’s tiring but Bandi always say yes to invitation, he’s a people pleaser. So I guess I have to tag along.
For me, I usually don’t go to friend’s wedding unless they’re very close to me. It’s not that I’m rude or anything but I would want to come to a wedding where I know the love story of the people who weds, I’m a romantic! But in my inner circle, I’m the first who get married and that’s pretty annoying because I’m the one who always said “don’t get married too fast” but here I am, 27 years old and freaking engaged! (Just kidding bandi! You know I love you, right?)
Did I have the regret to be engaged young? Hmm, sometimes I do think about it… I think 28 years is too young to be married (my opinion) but then I always tell myself that I’m marrying a very wonderful man whom I’ve known so well and he wouldn’t abuse me or sell my kidneys once we got married. Lol.

I think that’s enough for the first blabber in 2014… I wouldn’t want to spill all the craps now. I will go to KL tomorrow with Strawberry and will be back to Spore on Sunday, so until then, be good! =D

But one thing for sure... 2014 will be the awesomest year ever because I can't wait to marry my bestfriend. =)

But one thing for sure… 2014 will be the awesomest year ever because I can’t wait to marry my bestfriend. =)

Cheers,

May, isn’t really sure if she’s sober.

My blabbering in Septemberollercoaster

September is undoubtly my favorite month of the year. I didn’t have any particular reason but it just happened to be and every year I always get nice surprise from universe. I wonder what it would be this year. Thus I created the term Septemberollercoaster long time ago. If you happened to hear it from anyone but me, they copied from me! LOL

September is also Bandi’s birthday month. I always cook a special meal for him every year and this year I’ll cook his favorite seafood nasi goreng (as he requested). I bought a nice white wine on purpose from Changi last weekend because I planned to cook him poached salmon but then he specially requested for Seafood Nasi Goreng. I was shopping for extra squid to make his favorite side dish: Calamari! Well… I guess white wine goes well with squid and shrimp too. :p

However we’ll have the special meal on Bandi’s birthday’s eve because we will fly to Jakarta on his Birthday (this weekend) and he wanted to spend his last birthday partying with his buddies, which I told him also served as bachelor party (because twice in one year span is wasting money). He agreed on that and I told him I give him one night pass to do whatever he wants, unless one condition: one person must stays sober and drive them safely.

I, on the other hand, will fly to Jakarta to have my first bridesmaids meeting. So excited! Last weekend Bandi and I went to Bandung, to test food from 3 different venues. My stomach almost exploded because I ate 4 courses each venue! Thankfully we fell in love with one of them. It was like love at the first sight and Bandi fell deeper once he tasted the Fillet Mignon. Yum! It’s so good that one big fat word: VENUE from my wedding checklist is checked! (Oh yeah and that Bandung trip costed me 1.4 kgs weight gain, Super shit!)

I realized today that we’ve been engaged for 12 weeks and the wedding planning has been progressing smoothly. I’m so grateful that I have the awesomest support system I need. Bandi and my four bridesmaids. Everytime I felt down because of the things I wanted were too expensive, Bandi would always calm me down and helped me to find the cheaper alternative or to cut budget from other aspects. He loves to talk about our wedding too and sometimes he gave funny ideas (which obviously turned down instantly by me. LOLOL) But I know he loves planning this wedding with me. He admitted it that this is fun.

And now… updates about my Europe Trip! Everything is done! Every tickets, every bookings that we can do now are done. UK Visa is already attached nicely on our passport and we will apply for Schengen Visa a week after we comes back from Batam (a week after Jakarta trip). Yep, this month we do trip to Indonesia every weekend three times in a row. Didn’t really plan it, just sort of happened that way. We would go to Batam with group of friends, eating, spa-ing and singing karaoke til dawn. Indonesians who live in Singapore will know how much we love Batam for cheap saloon and spa! We won’t be able to have all the luxury in god-damn expensive Singapore!

Talking about expensive, SGD exchange rate to Rupiah has hit the highest. It’s 9,200 this morning and as much as I’m happy about it, I’m concerned too. You know, because mom has been yapping about all the unstable prices in Indo. (And that affects me A LOT) When I was in Bandung I bought a bottle of Nu Green Tea and I handed over Rp.5,000 note to the seller and he said, “It’s Rp.6,000” I was like, WTF?! Since when life in Indo became so god-damn expensive! Why is the price of everything has increased but not my salary?! Xp

Yeah I’ve been concerning about money more lately. Maybe because of the Euro Trip and Wedding would cost a lot. Hey, it doesn’t mean that before I never concerned about money because I was super rich, NO. You see, if you know me in real life, I have never been concerned about money, ever. I’m a happy-go-lucky girl with no future plan of anything. LOL (Please don’t think I’m proud of this) I’m just that kind of person who never gives a shit about money. I mean, yes I invest and I save some but not making it as a serious goal. Most of the things I enjoy doesn’t cost much $ and I don’t shop a lot. Back in my college time I could survive with Rp.50,000 for a week! I just eat indomie and hang out everyday with my friends. Ah… Good times.

Nowadays, my extra money is spent for mostly airplane tickets. And whenever pressure comes from my mom about money, universe just happened to give extra to me (seriously). If I happened to have money, I would give to her, if I didn’t have extra then I couldn’t give. That simple. The point is… I try my best in life that money doesn’t take so much place in my mind. But it’s been waking me up lately that I need to pay a lot of things and I started to worry. Damn it, HAVE I FINALLY TURNED INTO AN ADULT? Lol

But yeah, Europe Trip costs a lot, which I don’t complain because I have a special saving for this and this is my dream but then I didn’t think Bandi would propose to me that soon so now we’re also planning a wedding and of course it costs a lot of money too. It’s been ten months since I was in a real holiday trip but then I can’t complain because I know I’ve been saving money for the mega adventure. No pain no gain. :p

Well, I don’t know what to blabber anymore. Tonight I’m going to Marche to celebrate my roommate’s birthday and this whole week I couldn’t maintain my diet and been eating like crazy. My abs is no longer fabulous. Oh… it’s gone too soon… too fast. A moment of silence, everyone…

Guess this has bored you enough to curse on me? Please comment anything to make me feel that this post is not that boring. Anyhow, also wish me luck for my upcoming Jakarta trip because I will be spending two nights sleeping with my mom and I hope everything will be alright. =p

Cheers,

May, The happy-go-lucky Sanguine.

Preparing to be Mr and Mrs Cahaya

Ten months to our wedding day… Beside picking the perfect flowers, the perfect gown and the perfect entrée, there is one thing I consider to be the most important thing for preparing myself to be Mrs. Cahaya, that is: having the talk.

The talk, when we discuss about how our finances would be planned, how we’re gonna raise our kids, how important sexual relationship would take part, where are we gonna be retired, who is gonna take care of our parents, and so on and so on.

I read this blog about a week ago and I have waited for a perfect time to ask Bandi to do the 100 questions. He had been busy with work lately so I asked him to spend the whole Saturday with me. He thought that we would only talk about the London itinerary which was half true but I had an ulterior motive too.

Actually I told him about the book on Saturday morning and that I had the extracted 100 questions that I wanted to discuss with him, but he went suddenly defensive and said something like “Why are you still questioning me? I thought we’re passed that.”

I told him not to judge before he even read the questions. This book was supposed to help us to prepare for marriage. He insisted that he was ready and he didn’t need any shrink to tell him about marriage. I kept arguing with him that I believe in human brain and logic for preparing the marriage. I know heart is number one to follow when you wanted to marry someone, whether you love him or not, but brain is what keeps you IN THE MARRIAGE.

In the end, I decided to not argue more and just dropped it.

We went to Starbucks for another brainstorming session of our Europe Trip. After we finished our UK itinerary, he apologized for being such an ass earlier, I said I’m not in the mood anymore for discussing the book’s question, but then Bandi bought us a Les Miserablés tickets for our London trip so yeah, I was suddenly in the good mood. LOL.

We moved to a restaurant and ate and started the first question. It was quite fun, and then we continued to the next question and the next question and the next question and Bandi admitted it, this is fun.

Here’s the 100 questions from the book, if you want to download it and do it with your fiance/fiancée.

Now, let me sum up the best long talk I had with Bandi last weekend. (We actually paused the questions because there wasn’t enough time on Saturday and we continued on Sunday) We spent about total of 10 hours discussing the questions, moved from Dim Sum Restaurant to Ramen place to Fruit Tart. So yeah, it was one sweet (and fattening) weekend.

First of all, it hit me that there were things that I didn’t expect Bandi would say and it calmed me down that there were things that Bandi knew about me so well that he could speak my words. It was like a fun rollercoaster ride.

We argued a lot in a part of how we are gonna be raising our kid(s). He kept saying like “If he skipped school..” or “I will ask him to…” and then I snapped, “Why do you keep using male pronouns?”

“Because I want a son!”

“That is so not fair! So if we had a daughter, you would so gonna resent her?”

“Of course I won’t….” silence, “BUT, I would love a son.”

“SEE? You want a son because you want to play football with him. You thought girls can’t play football!” And then there was a never-ending argument about a child that wasn’t even born yet.

And there was this question:

“Have there been times when you were uncomfortable with the way I behaved with the opposite sex? If so, when and what did I do?”

We both said “No.” And I love that. =)

Bandi and I never had any issue for going out with opposite sex. I have a lot of guy friends and he has a lot of female friends and we love how we are totally comfortable with each other’s friends.

And there was this question:

“How are we different? Could this be a source of future conflict? Do our differences complement each other?”

We took so long to discuss this one because sometimes our differences are the source of conflict while the other times, they complement each other. So this is tricky, however I suggest not to stop the discussion and jump to the next question if we were not fully satisfied with the outcome. In terms of characters, we complement each other. When we travel, Bandi is good with maps, I’m not. Bandi can’t plan, I can. Bandi is messy, I am organized. Bandi is physically strong, I am not really. I always think that we are perfect as travel buddy. When we cook, Bandi is usually the executor, he was the one who cooked while I prepped. When he finished with knife, I would at once washed it. It’s just automatic in everything we do like we’re in a team.

However we are different in our logic. There were so many times when our logical differences caused a big argument and often a fight. Come to think of it now, I can’t even name one… I have this tendency to forget what we were fighting about. So I guess, no matter how different we are, we would always find ways to compromise and meet in the middle.

And there were more questions:

“Would you prefer to live in the city, the country, or by the beach? Why?”

Before I answered it, Bandi spoke for me, “you would prefer city. You’re a city girl.” and then he grinned. He’s right. “So we settle for that now.”

“If we are unable to have children, should we adopt?”

Both answered without hesitation, “YES.”

“How would you react if our son or daughter told us they were gay?”

We actually talked about this before and we both tried to accept it for the sake of our kid.

“What are your views on pornography?”

Bandi answered easily, “I love it.” LOL.

I was okay with that anyway.

There were a lot of questions related to how our parents treated each other. Sadly in this part, we both didn’t have a lot of things to learn from but it was nice for us to figure it out ourselves. Like how are we gonna ground our children, what justifies our kid to be grounded and how much freedom we would give our children, etc. It’s good to know that Bandi and I are prepared for this, even though we don’t have that much references.

We talked a lot in this area, especially when this question came: “How did your family resolve conflicts when you were growing up? Do you approve or disapprove of that method? what will you change or not change to resolve conflicts in your future family?”

We disapproved most of the method that both our families used to resolve the conflict and we were thinking what was the better way to do it and discussed the sample case.

And then there was this question:

“Is there anything about marriage that frightens you?”

Bandi said “No.” And I answered, “The concept that I must live together with only one person for the rest of my life.”

He asked again, “That frightens you? And don’t you think that’s a problem?”

“Here’s the thing. I also always feel that I can never get enough of you. I always want to be close to you. Never once in my life I want to be somewhere else but to be here with you. So the concept of living together with ONLY WITH you for the rest of my life really excites me. That’s a paradox, right?”

This morning, a close friend texted me, “Now that you’re getting married, are you ready?”

I answered, “100% ready. Can’t wait to be Mrs. Cahaya.” And then we talked about how this is so funny. Two years ago, with the same guy, the same condition, I said I’m not ready. Then why am I ready now?

Then the paradox concept becomes clearer. Let’s say there is an apple, half rotten, half juicy, sweet and ripe. Two years ago, I saw the apple from the north side, where I could only see the rotten part, and then I was moving slowly towards the south side so I was leaving the rotten part and started to see the juicy part. Now, I’m fully standing in the south and looking at the juice, sweet apple. The apple never changes a bit. The apple is a marriage.

There are always bad and good things about marriage. Two years ago, I preferred to only see the bad side, thus the concept of living with only one person frightens me. Now, I prefer to see the good side, so I think not only the concept is frightening, it is also exciting.

The concept of marriage itself never changes. I change my point of view.

The apple itself never moved. I moved my position.

Enough with that, let’s move to the other question, this one’s a funny one:

“What is nagging? Do I nag? How does it make you feel?”

I answered first, “Nope, you almost never nag.” And then Bandi showed his smug face “You nag almost all the time. Here’s an example. Bandi I’m hungry, come home fast.

“Then just tell me you couldn’t come home fast.”

“Then you would say… It’s okay then, I would just starve… with your dramatic voice,”

And after I laughed so hard, I told him, “Seriously, next time you could just say no and go hang out with your friends.”

“I don’t want to do that because I promised long time ago that you’re my top priority.”

Awwwwwwww!!!!

And then, here’s the last part of the summary:

“What health problems do you have?”

Bandi asnwered, “I have a heart problem.”

And I was shocked.

“My heart is full of you, that’s the problem.”

HAHAHAHAHA! Nice move, Bandi! But you’re still paying the Ramen! XD

After we finished the 100 questions, now Bandi wants it more so I placed an order for the book in bookdepository.

I can’t wait for the book to arrive!!! I will post again when the book arrives, okay?!

For all the bride and groom to be, I may not be able to share tips for choosing wedding venue or wedding favors and stuff but I hope this question would do you good. This is one of the best preparation for your marriage. Don’t skip this part. Enjoy that deep conversation with the love of your life! ;)

Cheers,

May, the happy fiancée.

Happy-go-lucky bridesmaids and a guessing game

I’m gonna talk about marriage and wedding and I swear to god as much as I don’t wanna talk too much about this because people will unfollow me (LOL), I don’t have any other interesting to blog. But I had to because of the “post a week” pact I made. Anyway… I have been busy booking BnB and preparing documents for visa application next month for the Euro Trip. It’s getting closer and I’m getting more excited and I’m getting broker! :D

The haze has faded and now PSI level comes back to normal but we don’t wanna get our hopes too high though because the haze now is being shifted to KL and probably would come back here again if the wind blows back south.

But let’s talk about the interesting thing. The REAL aftermath of my engagement. (not the oh-I’m-over-the-moon-fairy-tale-happy-one.)

I’ve only been engaged for 3 weeks and already it’s everyone’s wedding. I don’t complain. Because I really love how my friends are so excited about Bandi and I getting married, how they self-appointed themselves to be bridesmaids (yeah I have shameless friends) and they even already started choosing dresses (I don’t even choose my wedding gown yet!) But seriously, I love my friends who all suddenly became wedding expert (google involved) and troubled themselves for me.

Afterall, I do my wedding for them. For the people who actually care about me and Bandi. =)

If you asked, my dream wedding would be this.

Only Bandi, me and the sea.

Oh how I wish I could be that selfish. How I wish I could be careless about everyone. I would just go to Santorini and be Bandi’s wife.

But yeah, you guessed it right. As a Chinese, being the first grandson from his grandpa makes Bandi’s wedding very important for his family. And again, you guessed it right. I will be just a smiling doll on my wedding with people I don’t care about (and I don’t even know).

Again, I must not complain. Because I did complain to my mom (OMG I love my mom so much, she’s so cool about everything!!!) and my mom gave me pointer of how Chinese people loves wedding. It’s like their ego-booster if they succeeded to marry their child/grandchil/niece/nephew/[insert anything].

My mom on the other hand is so cool about everything. She said she’s okay with everything I plan and she talked mostly about how my wedding gown would be. Awww, mom, why so cute?

When Bandi’s Mom came 4 days after the proposal (bet she doesn’t want to delay even one day to discuss the wedding) Bandi and I told her that she could have anything she wanted for the wedding, we won’t protest.

Bandi said, “I only have one condition. I don’t want any Shark Fin’s Soup on my wedding. If I found out there would be Shark Fin’s Soup, I’d pack my bags back to Singapore. I swear to god.”

OH MY GOD I WANTED TO MARRY HIM ON THAT MOMENT!

And I swear I didn’t even bring up the Shark Fin issue at the first place. It was all his idea! I mean, yeah I didn’t want Shark Fin OBVIOUSLY but I didn’t know he would dare to talk like that to his alpha-female mom! Hahaha.

His aunt objected at first, saying that Shark Fin represent wealth for the Chinese and Bandi only replied, “then you can have your wedding. I won’t be there.”

OMG!!! ISN’T HE THE AWESOMEST MAN ALIVE!!! AAAAHHH!!!

Cony Aww

I always think I have the best possible. A guy who loves me unconditionally. But now, it’s even better! A guy who defends animal and loves me unconditionally!!! WHAT A PERFECT MATCH MADE IN HEAVEN! LOL LOL

Anyway Bandi knew that I hate chinese tradition and that I compromised so much to do this so yeah, I get to have my own wedding. MY WEDDING. hahahaha. Not the Santorini wedding of course, because I want my friends to come and party with us.

I won’t post details about my wedding like vendor and stuffs because not only there are a lot of wedding blogs out there you can trust more than me haha (and trust me you won’t find my wedding applicable LOL) but because my maid of honor and the three bridesmaids do most of the work. Hahaha.

Sometimes it’s sad to be away from all my friends. Maybe you all will think I’m weird for loving my friends more than my family. Well, there are different kinds of love. I love my family too, duh!

But friends are the ones you picked. You chose to be with them and made effort to always keep in touch. Let me talk about my three bridesmaids. One of them is my cousin, Renny. We’ve been bestfriends since I was one day old. And the other two are Fenty and Tannia whom I’ve been friends with since I was ten.

We’ve been friends since Fenty was still super fat, Tannia’s hair was still like lion and Renny was still crying about everything. LOL.

Ok now I have an idea for a GAME and I promise this involves a gift!! Yaiy!

I will tell short story about the three of them and you must guess who is whom from the photo. This is a guessing game of how you should never judge the book by its cover. For those who guess it right will get a gift from me. haha. Now this post sounds not so boring anymore, eh?

Renny

She’s a pre-school teacher, loves kids so much. Awkward in front of men, especially the one she has a crush on. Currently single and (seriously) looking. She’s witty, clumsy but would love to do anything to help me. She’s the most creative one among the four of us, thus she’s in charge of decoration (of course will get scolded by Ulen- my maid of honor because Ulen has OCD) and yeah, Renny is messy. She holds the record of losing her wallet, she mastered the art of blocking credit cards and reporting lost items to police. LOL. She’s independent, strong and a gym freak.

Tannia

She’s a flight attendant and the smartest one among the four of us, used to be working for one of the big four of public accountant firm for her brain. Her love of traveling (and of course her good looks) brought her to be a flight attendant. She’s an excellent scuba diver and like all other divers, her favorite spot is Raja Ampat. She was one of the diver when Indonesia team made the world record on Indonesia’s independent day in Wakatobi. She’s very close to her mom she tells her everything. She’s the queen of karaoke and everytime we went for karaoke she was the last man standing. Currently single but not looking.

The one who called couple of places in Bandung to ask for quotations when she knew I was engaged. Thanks to her, I got my dream venue and is in the process of booking it. She is the shy one, the girl next door that you would love to have as a friend. Currently busy with work, boyfriend and adjusting her independent life. After 26 years, she finally lives alone by herself and she loveees every second of it. She has the prettiest hand writing among four of us and even though she had a very good grade at school, she’s the slowest one to catch our fast and rapid conversation. So, she must scroll and scroll and scroll up on our whatsapp group chat. She’s one of the strongest woman I know. =)

Here’s a pic of me and my three bridesmaids.

We've been friends since we were ten. =)

A, B, The Bride to be, C.

Here’s how to WIN the Game:

You just need to guess it who is whom in the comment. Example: “A is xxx, B is xxx, C is xxx” and don’t forget to mention why you guess it like that. Mentioning your reason may increase your winning possibility because if there are so many people guessed right, I would choose the one with the most logical (or not) reason.

The possibility to win is also increased if you tell your friend about it by Retweeting this post or promoting it on your blog. =)

Anyway tonight there will be a confederation cup match of Italy VS Spain. You all MUST PRAY that Italy will win, because if Italy wins the match, there will be TWO WINNERS. hahaha! I’m serious.

UPDATE: Italy lost through penalty shootout. So, there will only one winner. T.T (You guys didn’t pray enough)

What you’re gonna win:

If you’re a man, you’re gonna win this!

A Sephora do-it-all Gel! Useful from head to toe!

A Sephora do-it-all Gel! Useful from head to toe!

If you’re a lady, you’re gonna win this!

OPI Mini Nail Lacquer Set

OPI Mini Nail Lacquer Set. Choose any mini OPI set you want. =)

For the OPI Set, I would ask again what kind of color you like, whether it is neon, pastels or different shades of red so I could buy exactly what you like. (I try my best to find it, don’t choose the one from three years ago lah.)

Terms and Conditions: The game will only be valid for a winner if there are at least 15 contestants. (So, please do tell your friends.)

UPDATE: THE GAME IS ON!!! :)

Who could join the Game?

EVERYONE!! Well, as long as you are residing on earth. :p (Unless of course people who know them, so please please don’t spoil it!)

When the game ends?

The game ends on 30th June. If until the end of June there are still not enough contestants (15 guessers) then it is considered void. But if there is enough guessers, I will announce the winner on Tuesday 2nd July.

Any other Question?

Just drop me an email or ask me via twitter! =)

Good luck!

So, that’s a wrap for my happy-go-lucky posting. I hope you all enjoy my first game-giveaway. Haha.

Yeah, it turns out I didn’t talk much about the wedding, did I? But don’t worry, I will bitch about the wedding planning sometime. LOL.

Cheers,

May, looking for the lucky winner.

Look Closer to Apple Pie and Cinnamon

Nope this is not a culinary post or a recipe blog. Sorry to disappoint hungry people though.

This post is about a  story of a girl. Let’s call her Apple Pie. Apple Pie has been in a long term relationship with her boyfriend, whom would we call Cinnamon, since they met in college, here in Singapore about 5 or 6 years ago. They’ve been together ever since. Apple Pie then had everything she wanted. A good settled life in Singapore, with so many great friends around, a good career, even an offer to be a public teacher (which is sooo amazing in Singapore), but she turned down the offer, and she must quit her job that she liked and she would sadly leave all of her friends and she must leave Singapore.

Why?

She did them all in the name of love.

Because her boyfriend (was then in a long distance relationship with her) proposed to her. Then she must follow her boyfriend (then became future husband) to where he lived, which is a city that if compared to Singapore is much less developed. And the most horrifying thing was, she didn’t know anyone in that city. She must restart her life. She leave everything she has just because of a guy.

In this paragraph, you probably would think “This girl is so stupid.”

I would too…

That, until I knew what her reason is, and that this is not “just a guy”.

I was in the same condition with her when Bandi was talking about going back to his hometown and I straight away told him “No way, we’re breaking up.” So I was blown awayyy with how universe works. Universe arranged my encounter with this girl and we talked and talked and talked until midnight and she opened my eyes of how idiotic love can be. And love should be that way. I requested Bandi to be idiotic, while I stayed sane. That wasn’t fair.

Now let me tell you the other side of the story of Apple Pie and Cinnamon, and let’s take a closer look.

Apple Pie and Cinnamon had the amazing two years relationship when they were in college. Spent so much time together and later found out that they were made for each other. Apple Pie learned a lot from Cinnamon, especially of how Cinnamon treated his family. He was the family guy every girls dying to have to be their husband. Cinnamon was not like that at all, then she learnt how to call her mom and asked her how she is and stuffs. That was one of so many things Apple Pie learnt from Cinnamon.

Long story short, after graduated, Cinnamon moved back to his hometown, a city in the other part of Indonesia, far from Capital city Jakarta, and not Apple Pie’s hometown either. Cinnamon had to move back because he had to inherit his father’s local business. His father was getting old and that was something he must do. Apple Pie tried to understand that but she still stayed in Singapore, for another 2 or 3 years and for that period of time, they were in a long distance relationship.

I know Apple Pie loves living here and it must be so hard for them to decide what to do for their future. They must decide something or otherwise they would be in an LDR for the rest of their lives! (And trust me that’s not a wise idea!) So I met Apple Pie, about 3 months ago. She told me she would go back to Indonesia for good. I asked her why and she said because I wanted to be with Cinnamon.

I asked why again, and she explained.

In the first two years of relationship, when they were still in college, it was all about her. She was the center of the universe. Cinnamon did everything for her. Because it was only the two of them. There were no parents or family involved. Apple Pie knows that Cinnamon would do anything for her. If he could, he would stay with Apple Pie in Singapore, and continue to treat Apple Pie as the center of the universe.

But Cinnamon has a family and he must take care of them and that is something that a man must do. And this is the time for Apple Pie to pay back the favor. Now she wants him to be the center of the universe. She would do anything to make him happy. And she knows he’s happy when he’s with her and his family. So she would move in with him, to an unfamiliar town, which language she couldn’t talk.

I, before knowing her personally, would never ever ever understand why a woman would make a sacrifice for a man like that. That is so degrading for a feminist like me. I would probably call her names like dumbo or stupido or anything.

But then I knew her, and she was not at all stupid or delusional or weak. She was just in love. And she proved me that love does conquer all, my friend.

I am so touched with her bravery and her big heart. It surely wasn’t an easy thing to do, but remember this:

“Sometimes the right thing and the hard thing are the same thing.” (Liz Lemon – 30 Rock)

I’m sorry I didn’t know her sooner. But I’m glad in that short period of time, I met her and got to know her better. We could’ve been BFF if she didn’t move out, but however I’m grateful that I met her.

She made me reflect about my relationship with Bandi which is more or less in the same situation. Bandi is just as worth to sacrifice as Cinnamon and there’s nothing I should hesitate that he will take care of me like he takes care of his sisters and his mother. He’s a family guy that every girls dying to have to be their husband.

But, my heart is not as big as Apple Pie. I am selfish and for these 6 six years of our relationship, not even once I put Bandi as the center of the universe. It’s been always me, me, and me. I have to be the center of his universe, now and always. I have to be spoiled in every possible way. And I don’t feel bad, because I love that.

God knows how much I love Bandi.

I told Apple Pie that. And she said, people speak different love languages, like in Gray Chapman’s book. And I shouldn’t feel guilty. Everyone express love in different way, different language. (You can find more about this in Gary Chapman’s 5 Love Languages).

Universe works in a strange way. I met Apple Pie in a cycling event, got to know her over a Pasta cooking session and talked to her til passed midnight, and finally realized how love conquers all over a short coffee in Cafe Cartel. Yet this lady made a difference in my life.

The wholemeal spaghetti that we cooked.

I hope I can deliver the message of love and sacrifices in this post. I hope there are no more stupid judgments over the things people do in the name of love. I used to be that person and now I’m not anymore. Love is the most important thing in life. Everything is worth sacrificing for love.

Hey there, Apple Pie. Thanks for inspiring me, and changing my perspective about love and sacrifices. Have fun on your next adventure with Cinnamon. And see you on your wedding day! So excited!!!

Cinnamon’s niece drew this for their wedding day.

Love,

May.
