In an ordinary reading class, taught an ordinary lesson, with not-so ordinary kid named Angelin.
I was discussing about the story and I asked some of the vocabularies. One of the question was “What does ‘free’ mean? Can you explain it?”
While my other students usually explained it as “Free is when you can do anything.” or “Free is like a bird” or “Free is buy one get one free” (this one is shopping way too much) or “yeah, just free…”. The last one is usually spoken by some lazy students. :D
She explained the word “FREE” as…
So there is a man who got into jail, and he suffered. But he doesn’t make mistake. There is other man who is his twin. He is a bad man, but then He tell the truth to the jail and he actually has to go to jail. And the twin who is good man now can finally FREE.
And I was amazed. How did a 7 years old girl pictured a situation like it, and she really described a word “Free” with a very extraordinary way. She always explained words with extraordinary ways. But this one, is like a magic which amazed me.
She’s got to be a writer or a journalist or a novelist someday. :D
It’s amazing how young kids can inspire you. And how they can teach you more that you thought.
